Our Vision

An open self-service platform unifying research and production

From idea to investable, with research and production as one

We believe the best investing is both fundamental and quantitative. Human insight should be encoded into clear, testable rules, and moved from research to live portfolios or indices without friction or translation risk.

Traditional workflows make that hard. Strategy design is fragmented, slow to iterate, and costly to industrialize. We unify research and production in a single rigorous framework, inspired by a ResearchOps mindset: systematic, testable, and built to scale.

Our purpose is to turn ideas into investable, rules-based strategies in seconds, while raising the bar on transparency, reproducibility, and governance. AI accelerates discovery, structures methodologies, and supports the generation of professional-grade outputs.

Self-service indexing as the next industry standard

Self-service indexing will disrupt the indexing industry. Index providers will increasingly differentiate not only by publishing indices, but by offering platforms that let clients co-create, test, and iterate investment methodologies: quickly, transparently, and at scale, while the provider remains in control of validation and production.

A truly useful self-service indexing platform cannot be a toy. It must be able to express and implement virtually any index methodology, from simple building blocks to the most sophisticated rules and constraints. Otherwise, users quickly hit a wall, and the platform becomes an additional layer of friction rather than a productivity engine.

Open by design: no black boxes

Investment methodologies sit at the core of any market player's business. Market participants need an open format and architecture that guarantees:

  • Continuity: methodologies remain portable and future-proof.
  • Auditability: every result can be traced back to explicit rules, data, and versions.
  • Reproducibility: the same methodology produces the same outputs under the same conditions.

This is why we build MCFT Folio around explicit, opened and versioned methodology specifications and why all our design philosophy favors transparency over opacity.

What guides us

To build a landmark of excellence in index-technology

  • Clarity over complexity. Plain-English rules, explicit universes, constraints, and rebalancing policies.
  • Reproducibility by design. The same configuration powers backtests and live calculation, with versioning and audit trails.
  • Speed with substance. Fast iteration paired with robust analytics, documentation-ready outputs, and operational discipline.
  • Human in the loop. AI augments judgment; it does not replace accountability.

This is the vision behind MCFT: a partner for index providers and asset managers who want to move from ideas to investable indices or strategies quickly, confidently, and at scale.

With humility, we believe we are building a first-in-class, open platform with the potential to become a reference for index design studios and self-service indexing.

The team

MCFT’s founders each bring 15+ years in asset management, combining market insight with scientific rigor and engineering depth.

Romain Charlassier

CEO

Romain graduated from ENS Lyon and holds a PhD in Physics. He began in academic research at the APC Laboratory and CEA, focusing on data science and AI. He then spent nearly 15 years in asset management, notably as portfolio manager of long/short equity AIFs and UCITS funds. He has specialised in rules-based investing, including factor investing and portfolio optimization.

At MCFT, he aims to realize his vision for how best to leverage AI in indexing, and to advance his conviction that investing, at its best, should be both fundamental and quantitative.

Lucas Mouilleron

CTO

Lucas graduated from INSA Lyon with a degree in computer science. He began in software engineering and later moved into asset-management technology. Over nearly 15 years, he served as Director of Technology and CTO for quantitative hedge funds, leading development from research and signal engines to data pipelines, risk systems, and PMS/OMS platforms.

At MCFT, he aims to implement the ResearchOps concept he has championed over the past 10 years: unifying research and production in a single, powerful investment framework.

Jonathan Klein

Head of Business Development

Jonathan graduated from ENS and HEC Paris. He began at McKinsey, where he became a Partner in Paris and New York. He later served as a senior executive at a hedge fund. He launched his own advisory firm to support value creation for asset managers. He brings 15+ years of experience in asset management and business development.

At MCFT, he seeks to continue helping market participants generate equity value by embracing next-generation technology.
